Through the use of careful lap grinding on both a diamond lapping machine and hand lapping with grit spread on a sheet of plate glass I was able to take enough of the glass away on the bottom of the vase's foot to remove the deep chip. A wet belt sander was used to soften the edges and to bring the glass back to a perfect polish.
